Post Malone might be taking a brief hiatus from country music and revisiting a genre he thrives in.
On Thursday (July 16), he shared a preview of a new song on Instagram that sounds like he’s returning to the rap style that fans know and love.
“That one mofo that don’t know when to leave,” he wrote alongside the video, which shows him drinking a Bud Light and smoking a cigarette.
The unreleased song has a melodic rap sound reminiscent of albums like Beerbongs & Bentleys and Hollywood’s Bleeding. It could also hint at the direction of his next album. In the preview, he raps, “All my money clean, not a damn stain on me/ I would pop a bean, 2016 Stoney.”
Post Malone’s last rap album was Twelve Carat Toothache, released in 2022, which reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart. He later explored pop music with Austin in 2023 before switching to country with 2024’s F-1 Trillion. That album included the hit song “I Had Some Help” with Morgan Wallen, which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The 31-year-old is also working on his next album, The Eternal Buzz, although it doesn’t have an official release date yet. He told Billboard last year at Coachella that he had been recording the album in Nashville and had already finished 35 songs.
Post Malone first became popular as a rapper in 2016 with “White Iverson.” He later became one of music’s biggest stars with No. 1 hits like “Psycho” featuring Ty Dolla $ign, “Rockstar” with 21 Savage, “Circles,” and “Sunflower” with Swae Lee.
