Few filmmakers, if any, have had as much success over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic as Zack Snyder has had. First the “Snyder Cut” of the Justice League film made waves on the internet last year, then he caught everybody’s attention once again earlier this year when Army of the Dead hit Netflix. While the pandemic has hampered most director’s level of productivity, Snyder seems to be working harder than ever before while additionally reaping the benefits of what he has sown. Now the celebrated filmmaker has another new project on the way with the first official trailer for Army of Thieves being unveiled this week, making Snyder a hot topic in the media once again.
Snyder’s resume makes it abundantly clear he is anything but a one trick pony, and the new trailer for Army of Thieves seemingly drives that point home. Poised to be a prequel to the aforementioned Army of the Dead, Army of Thieves revisits the plotline of a major heist but leaves out the zombies that its predecessor is notorious for. In the trailer which can be seen below, though the existence of zombies is brushed upon it is obvious that the focus is somewhere else entirely. Instead the emphasis is placed upon the cast of characters, which includes Nathalie Emmanuel and Matthias Schweighöfer among others, to tell the story of the heist in question and seemingly build out Snyder’s universe of movies further. Army of Thieves can be seen on Netflix in a few short weeks when it premieres on October 29th.
While many filmmakers have struggled to remain creative over the past year, Snyder’s brain seems to be working overtime. Now he is gearing up for his third premiere since the pandemic began and is seemingly working harder than ever before to ensure his career in Hollywood is a long one. He is certainly off to a good start, and Army of Thieves could just be a continuation of that. We will just have to wait and see when the film officially debuts on Netflix on October 29th.
