The iconic role of Donald Sutherland ✨
In the original series, the character was famously played by Donald Sutherland, serving as the primary antagonist who exerted a chilling control over the dystopian society. With Fiennes stepping into this pivotal role, expectations are high for a compelling and powerful performance that will deepen the prequel’s narrative.
Ralph Fiennes is celebrated for his impressive work across a wide range of acclaimed films, including notable performances in Schindler’s List, Conclave, In Bruges, The Hurt Locker, The Menu, The Grand Budapest Hotel, as well as his roles in the Harry Potter series and the James Bond franchise. Producer Nina Jacobson expressed that their choice to cast Fiennes was a way to pay tribute to Donald Sutherland’s portrayal of President Snow. She explained,
“We wanted to honor Sutherland’s iconic role by having one of this generation’s finest actors embody President Snow, taking place 24 years before Katniss Everdeen’s story begins.”
Who will be apart of this film?!
I’ve wanted to collaborate with Ralph Fiennes ever since his unforgettable performance in Schindler’s List left a lasting impact on me. It truly feels like an exciting milestone to have him join the cast of The Hunger Games. The film “Sunrise on the Reaping” boasts a lineup of talented actors, including Joseph Zada, who will portray a young Haymitch Abernathy, and Jesse Plemons, taking on the role of a younger Plutarch Heavensbee.

Additionally, Whitney Peak has been cast as Lenore Dove Baird, who is Haymitch’s love interest, adding further depth and star power to this already impressive ensemble.
Surprise surprise, Kelvin Harrison Jr will be playing a younger version of Beetee, a character originally brought to life by Jeffrey Wright. Additionally, Glenn Close is reportedly in negotiations to join the film, potentially taking on a significant role. The cast also features Maya Hawke and Lili Taylor, who will depict the youthful versions of Wiress and Mags, respectively.
