Walt Disney Studios and Pixar have officially announced their partnership for their brand-new animated feature, Luca. The flick is said to have guidance from Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Enrico Casarosa, who is well-known for his work on the 2011 animated short La Luna. Luca will debut in the summer of 2021.
The newest movie is set in Italy and is described as an exciting adventure that will tell the story of a young boy named Luca as he experiences a memorable summer with his new best friend on the Italian Riviera. But all the joy is threatened by a deep, dark secret: he is a sea monster from another world just below the water’s surface.
“This is a deeply personal story for me, not only because it’s set on the Italian Riviera where I grew up, but because at the core of this film is a celebration of friendship. Childhood friendships often set the course of who we want to become and it is those bonds that are at the heart of our story in Luca,” Casarosa said in a statement.
