A while ago, fans thought they’d have to ‘think pink’ as Nicki Minaj‘s song “Freedom” suggests. This notion comes after the queen announced that she’d be retiring to start a family. But Mrs.Petty shows no signs of slowing down! In fact, she takes part of PnB Rock‘s newly released song “Fendi” (prod. by Murda Beatz) right before her soon-to-come launch with Fendi in October.
Already debated as the brand’s theme song, the triad bring out their best musical drip. Throughout the track’s soundscape, Murda Beatz test the limits of pop; drawing from the feel-good vibe found in Caribbean music and injecting both elements into the track’s synth-wave. Equally important, Beatz also uses a trap-inspired 808 to show that either came to play games. But realistically speaking, when have they ever slacked off?
To build the hype, Nicki calls for Murda, then proceeds to tell him that this is really her favorite song. Following after, PnB Rock charges into the chorus, proving that he’s no stranger to earworthy falsettos.
Lyrically, Rock talks about a woman who seeks interest in him and just so happens to match his fly. And even though he’s already cuffed, Rock wouldn’t mind introducing her to another side of fashion. For instance, in this fraction of Rock’s first verse, he says he’d mix her with “bougie, a little classy and ratchet.”
Afterwards, Nicki Minaj doesn’t waste time and uses boastful rhymes to tell misinformed females that she’s the queen sleeze. Ultimately Minaj wavers into two different flows. One more aggressive and the other, melodic. The basis of her lyrics is to flaunt and assure doubters that her lover’s interest is for keeps. And lines like “It’s Fendi, it’s poppin’, and we on and poppin’, you bitches is blockin’ the view/My hitters is knockin’, that 40 is cockin’, I see that you jackin’ the crew/He already know what to do/He already bought me the shoe.” go on to prove that this is nothing but factual.
