Rachel Zegler has addressed the criticism surrounding her past remarks about the live-action remake of Disney’s Snow White, attributing the uproar to the intense passion that fans have for the beloved princess.
Zegler is set to play the iconic role of Snow White in the upcoming film, with her casting announcement in 2021 sparking significant backlash due to her Colombian heritage. This controversy intensified when Zegler described the original 1937 animated classic as “dated” and referred to the prince’s behavior as being akin to “stalking” the princess. Additionally, after she voiced her opposition to Donald Trump‘s election last year, a coalition of his supporters pledged to boycott the film’s release.
In a recent interview with Vogue Mexico, Rachel Zegler shared her reflections on the intense emotions surrounding the film
“I perceive the audience’s reactions to this movie as a clear demonstration of their enthusiasm for it,” she stated.

She also conveyed her sense of privilege in being part of a project that ignites such strong feelings among viewers, saying,
“It’s truly an honor to contribute to something that resonates so deeply with people.”
Zegler acknowledged the reality that not everyone will share the same sentiments, but emphasized the importance of striving to give our utmost in every endeavor. She also highlighted the “beautiful experience” of witnessing young Black girls react to Halle Bailey taking on the iconic role of Ariel in the live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid in 2023. Throughout the discussion, Zegler openly embraced her Colombian roots, sharing how her heritage plays a significant role in her identity.
She shared her understanding of how the Hispanic community doesn’t want to be seen as a singular entity, but acknowledged that as a Latina in the industry, there’s a constant effort to represent the entire diaspora. “I know my own experiences, and I carry them with me in my story, holding them close every day,” she explained.

The actress from West Side Story also touched on the differences between the 20th and 21st century versions of Disney’s Snow White.
“It’s essential for people to know that Disney has carefully balanced the beloved 1937 animated classic with a fresh take for today’s generation,” she noted.
Zegler explained that this balance stems from the very essence of Snow White’s character.
“Her strength lies in her heart,” she said. “There’s no magical ability she holds, except for her deep love for humanity, all living beings, and her unwavering belief that goodness exists in everything. I truly think the world could benefit from embracing that more.”
