Over the years, a myriad of fairy tales have predominated children’s literature and have served as both fun stories as well as an integral means of instilling meaningful lessons into their minds which they can carry with them for the rest of their lives. From Humpty Dumpty to Little Red Riding Hood, the list is virtually endless with each unique story serving to tackle a different lesson that illuminates the minds of growing young children at a very early age. While they are just fairy tales, these stories serve as folklore in modern society as their unique approaches to teaching these lessons are often revered for their efficacy as well as their staying power in teaching these lessons year after year via the same means. Now we are set to see one of these esteemed fairytales come to life: just this morning it was announced that Reese Witherspoon’s production company Hello Sunshine and Build-A-Bear Entertainment are teaming up to produce a film adaptation of the iconic children’s story Goldilocks and The Three Bears.
Originally published in Great Britain in the 19th century, Goldilocks and The Three Bears tells the story of a curious young blonde girl stumbles upon a cabin in the woods which serves as the home of three bears who inhabit the woods she finds herself in. Upon venturing into the cabin, Goldilocks discovers a plethora of refreshments as well as a number of beds which she can rest in in the hopes of furthering her journey. Now her journey is set to hit the big screen with Reese Witherspoon’s production company Hello Sunshine and Build-A-Bear Entertainment uniting forces and endeavoring to create an animated film based up the iconic fairy tale that sees Goldilocks as a strong female protagonist. While other details remain sparse, the team behind the project is ripe with enthusiasm as indicated by Claire Curley, Hello Sunshine’s head of kids and animation who will serve as executive producer on the project alongside Witherspoon, adding that their company is “excited to collaborate with [Build-A-Bear Entertainment] to bring a new perspective to such a timeless tale that we know will inspire young audiences.” Build-A-Bear Workshop President and CEO Sharon Price John shared a similar sentiment, adding that she “could feel the magnetic creativity in the air from our early discussion about the concept and I believe the success of Hello Sunshine is a proof-point of the potential of this project.” The project remains in the infantile stages of production at the time of this announcement but eager moviegoers can continue to check back for updates regarding the pending film adaptation of Goldilocks and The Three Bears as things progress.
More and more often we are seeing production companies adapting unique stories, and Goldilocks and The Three Bears. The project also marks Hello Sunshine’s first animated feature, which should serve to ensure that they are going to put their best foot forward in reimagining the timeless story. Moviegoers will just have to wait and see as more details regarding Goldilocks and The Three Bears emerge in the near future.
