Actress Regina Hall is trending on X, formerly known as Twitter, after Paramount Pictures announced that they have a Scary Movie reboot in the works.
On Thursday night (April 11), Variety reported that a rep from Paramount Pictures revealed they’ve teamed up with film producer Neal H. Moritz for a brand-new Scary Movie during this year’s ComicCon. Production is said to begin in the fall of 2024, so the new addition to the horror meets comedy franchise should debut in theaters in 2025. However, no details about the cast list have been revealed yet, which has caused an uproar about Regina Hall’s role in the upcoming Scary Movie. Fans of the horror franchise also expressed their desire to have Anna Faris reprise her role and for the Wayans brothers to partake in the movie’s creative process.
“If the Wayans, Anna Faris, and Regina Hall aren’t involved, we do not care,” one user typed.
Another X user wrote, “Anna Faris and Regina Hall’s comedic chemistry is unmatched. We need them back in the Scary Movie reboot.”
Meanwhile, a third person commented, “Cool, are Shawn Wayans, Marlon Wayans, Anna Faris, and Regina Hall coming back? I’d wager to guess they are spoofing legacy sequels, so it would only make sense.”
In the Scary Movie film series, Regina Hall played Brenda Meeks and Faris played Cindy Campbell in Scary Movie, Scary Movie 2, Scary Movie 3, and Scary Movie 4. The Wayans brothers, on the other hand, had all hands on deck only during the first and second installment of the Scary Movie collection. Scary Movie and Scary Movie 2 were directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans and starred brothers Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans, who co-wrote the movies. Shawn played Ray, while Marlon played a character named Shawty.
The horror parody Scary Movie franchise started in 2000 and earned $278 million at the box office on a $19 million budget. Because it gained such positive feedback from media critics, the series spawned five additional Scary Movie films, with the fifth one debuting in April of 2013.
