While superhero films have experienced a renaissance in recent years, few franchises have lived up to the success of the Spider-Man franchise. Everybody’s favorite web-slinging superhero first appeared in comic books in1962 before a variety of television series and films would propel the franchise to new heights, being rebooted once again in 2017 with Tom Holland as the star. Now Holland and company are preparing to release the third film in the latest Spider-Man trilogy with Spider-Man: No Way Home set to release at the end of this year. However details about the latest project are up in the air with the rumor mill swirling as fans speculate whether a familiar face will return to the iconic franchise for its latest installment.
Since being rebooted a few years ago, the Spider-Man franchise has recaptured the eyes and ears of moviegoers around the world. Along with the recent films starring Tom Holland, an animated film was also released in 2018 with a sequel on the way next year that only further highlights the demand for the iconic hero. But what has fans most excited at the moment is the upcoming film Spider-Man: No Way Home that is set to release this holiday season, with many fans speculating about what easter eggs they can expect to see in the project. The most recent rumor to hit social media is that Andrew Garfield, who played the superhero in a reboot of the franchise a decade ago, may make an appearance in the project after a new image surfaced of him seemingly on set. Garfield addressed the rumors in an interview on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, which can be seen below.
With the evolving technology of deep fakes, it is no surprise that internet sleuths could have doctored an image to make fans believe Garfield is involved in the latest Spider-Man project. While it is bound to disappoint some fans, he rebuked any rumors in the aforementioned interview and even said himself that the image in question was photoshopped. With that being said however, it is safe to assume that fans can still expect plenty from the upcoming film. They will just have to wait until December 17th when Spider-Man: No Way Home hits theaters.
