The iconic Samuel L. Jackson will return as the always-intriguing Nick Fury in Marvel Studio’s newest series, Secret Invasion, which was revealed at Disney’s D23 Expo this past Saturday.
The trailer begins with Nick Fury arriving back on Earth after the events of Captain Marvel in 2019 and is met by Agent Maria Hill, played by Cobie Smulders. When asked about his absence, Fury says that he needs to fight the coming war alone before referencing the Skrulls’ primary objective. “I’m the last person standing between them and what they really want,” he exclaims.
The new political thriller is based on the company’s 2008 comic book crossover of the same name, written by Brian Michael Bendis, Leinil Francis Yu, Mark Morales, and Laura Martin. The Avengers are destabilized by shapeshifting aliens called Skrulls who take on the identities of characters like Hawkeye and Spider-Woman.
Secret Invasion premieres on Disney+ in 2023.
