Since the beginning of 2020, new films have been hard to come by as movie theaters remained shutdown for an entire calendar year and moviegoers were forced to consume content from the comfort of their living rooms. While some saw their releases pushed to streaming platforms such as Netflix and HBO Max in hopes of recouping their investment, this newfound system of film distribution is something that virtually nobody could have possibly seen coming. Now that we have a better handle on the COVID-19 pandemic and an array of vaccines to help combat it, the movies are back in a big way and moviegoers are flocking to the theaters in hordes to take part in their favorite pastime. A new star-studded comedy is poised to have fans elated in The Estate, with an impressive team already at the helm of the budding project that should make for an interesting affair.
Written by Dean Craig who has been lauded in recent years for his work on films such as the 2007 comedy Death at a Funeral, The Estate tells the story of two young women who find out their wealthy and estranged aunt has fallen ill, hoping to reintegrate themselves into her life during her final days. They aren’t alone however, quickly finding out that their cousins have hatched a similar plan and have already begun planting the seeds by the time they arrive, making this an all-out family affair from the jump. The film is being produced by Signature Films and they have cast Toni Collette and Anna Faris to play the aforementioned women, with Thomas Haden Church also cast to presumably play the role of the cousin. Colette is best known for her work on The Sixth Sense which won her an Oscar, while Faris has received acclaim in recent years for her work on the television series Mom and Church set to reprise his role as Sandman in the latest Spider-Man franchise reboot. Now they will all be joining forces, with more details set to emerge about The Estate in the coming weeks as filming commences.
Given what the world has had to deal with in the past year or two, there has seemingly never been a better time for a lighthearted comedy. The team behind The Estate makes the project equally as promising, filled with Hollywood veterans such as Craig and Faris who have plenty of other comedic experience on their resumes. Now they will be getting to add another project to the list, and interested viewers can remain on the lookout for further updates about The Estate in the near future.
