Snoop Dogg is announced as one of the final Olympic flame torchbearers ahead of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 opening ceremony on Friday, July 26.
According to Deadline, the rapper is set to carry the flame during its penultimate leg around the northern Paris suburb of Saint-Denis, which also happens to be where the new Olympic Aquatics Centre resides. MC Solaar, Laeticia Casta, Alice Diop, Charles-Antoine Kouakou, and Abdelatif Benazzi are all set to carry the torch as well. The news surfaced after Mayor Mathieu Hanotin of Saint-Denis, France, made a tweet on X about Snoop’s involvement.
After Snoop hands off the flame to another aforementioned star, it will head onto the Olymptoauldron in the Tuileries Gardens in Central Paris, where it will remain throughout the 2024 Olympics. The rapper is currently working as a sportscaster on NBC’s Primetime in Paris alongside Mike Tirico, the primetime host for NBC’s Paris Olympics coverage.
“I grew up watching the Olympics and am thrilled to see the incredible athletes bring their A-game to Paris. It’s a celebration of skill, dedication, and the pursuit of greatness,” Snoop said in a press statement from last year.
Snoop Dogg intends to get involved in the Olympic competitions by visiting Olympic athletes and their friends and families, “exploring the unique sights and sounds that only Paris has to offer” as part of his coverage of the games.
