Since movie theaters reopened earlier this year, box office success has been limited for most films that have seen an in-theater release. That wasn’t the case this weekend however, with Spider-Man: No Way Home hitting record breaking numbers its first night of release this past Friday. Estimates have the numbers set to soar even higher, with many questioning what’s next for Tom Holland and company after the incredibly successful premiere in his third stint as the titular hero. Here we have all the details about the latest Marvel release Spider-Man: No Way Home and what fans can expect for the future of the iconic franchise.
The third installment in the latest Spider-Man reboot, Spider-Man: No Way Home raked in $121 million domestically by the end of Friday night and earned itself the spot of second best opening day ever. Planted firmly behind another Marvel film in Avengers: Endgame, estimates have their latest project set to potentially gross north of $250 million in the U.S. alone by the end of the weekend and highlights a huge win for Marvel and Sony who partnered together to make the film. Now many are asking what’s next for Spider-Man and company after the conclusion of the latest trilogy, and it looks like we might have some answers thanks to a recent New York Times interview with Marvel head honcho Kevin Fiege and Sony executive Amy Pascal. When asked what’s next for the web-slinging superhero, Pascal notes that “At the end of the movie we just made, you see Spider-Man make a momentous decision, one that you’ve never seen him make before. It’s a sacrifice. And that gives us a lot to work with for the next film” with Fiege adding that “we’re actively beginning to develop where the story heads next.” While it may not be the clearest answer, we at least know that this isn’t the end for Spider-Man and will just have to patiently await further updates from either Marvel or Sony.
Despite early doubts, Tom Holland has done an excellent job reimagining one of the most iconic roles in the history of Hollywood and should be commended for it. Rotten Tomatoes certainly agrees giving the film a 94% rating and all the success even has Holland contemplating taking a break from acting to start a family. While Spider-Man might look a little different in the near future, eager fans can catch Spider-Man: No Way Home in theaters now.
