No more Ben Affleck? After years of back and forth of who will be playing the role of Batman in the new movie, directed and written by Matt Reeves, Robert Pattinson is taking over the role of Gotham’s iconic Dark Knight. Like Aquaman and Wonder Woman, The Batman will be the character’s first solo feature since the conclusion of Christopher Nolan’s acclaimed Dark Knight trilogy.
Despite portraying Batman in each of the films in which the character has appeared so far in the DC Extended Universe franchise, Ben Affleck won’t play Bruce Wayne in The Batman. The former Batman Icon who played the role in three movies, Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice, Suicide Squad and Justice League, reportedly ‘wanted out’ after the movie Justice League shortly snowballed and became one of the lowest-grossing DC movies to date!
The film is scheduled to hit theaters in June 2021, but a few days before the studio’s announcement, Reeves replied to when he expects the movie to hit theaters.
“We haven’t been dated. I wouldn’t commit to this, but we’re thinking the movie would probably be for 2021, late spring or summer,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “Warner Bros. has been incredibly supportive and given me a lot of time and shared the same passion that I do for this story.”
“It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films,” Reeves told THR in January.
“The comics have a history of that. He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been. I’d love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime.”
In August 2016, Ben Affleck posted on Twitter of an unknown villain who just a few weeks after found to be Deathstroke, the villain of Batman’s new solo movie with True Blood actor, Joe Manganiello.
But Deathstroke might not be the only villain featured in the film, Reeves said in January that the movie will feature Batman’s rogues gallery in one form or another, stating that there could be a large cast of enemies for the hero to face.
Only time will tell and we can’t wait to see what The Batman has in store .
