A movie icon from 1986’s The Transformers: The Movie is making an official debut in Transformers’ new comic book issue. According to Screen Rant, Ultra Magnus, who was introduced as the leader of Autobot City in the aforementioned movie, is making a strong comeback as a mentor to rising Autobots like Arcee in the recent comic. Fans believe that in the following comic book installment Ultra Magnus might also have some involvement in the Autobot/Decepticon war.
Transformers #7, which debuted on April 10, takes place in Cybertron and sees Elita-1 leading a small group of Autobots as they bust into a Decepticon’s fortress. Although several Autobots get defeated by Decepticons, Elita-1 escapes freely and comes across the remains of a large Transformer chained to a wall. The book ends with Elita-1 asking a rhetorical question: “What have they done to you?” That Transformer is no other than Ultra Magnus.
In the 1986 action film, Optimus Prime chooses Ultra Magnus to become the Matrix of Leadership after he was seriously injured in his fight against Megatron. Magnus tried his best to lead the Autobots, despite resenting secretly disliking the role. Moreover, due to task delegating, Ultra Magnus saw himself as more of a soldier than a leader. Eventually, the movie’s plot revealed that the Matrix chose Hot Rod as the actual leader.
The Transformers comic books are illustrated by Daniel Warren Johnson, Jorge Corona, Mike Spicer, and Rus Wooton.
