Roberto Orci will be writing a Spider-Man spin-off movie for Sony, according to rumors. The title, main characters, and subject of the film are unknown at this time.
Orci was a writer on The Amazing Spider-Man 2, two live-action Transformers movies (the 2008 original and 2009’s Revenge of the Fallen), and two Star Trek movies (the 2009 reboot and its sequel Star Trek Into Darkness), as well as TV shows Fringe, Alias, and Hawaii Five-0.
Curiously, reports say that the spin-off film will be a part of Sony’s Spider-Man universe with the likes of Venom and the upcoming Morbius but it will not be linked to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That’s quite the perplexing statement given that the first Morbius trailer went out of its way to show that it takes place in the MCU by referencing both Tom Holland Spider-Man movies, which are set in the MCU. The trailer showed Spider-Man street art demonizing the wall-crawler for killing Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home and ended with the surprise appearance of Michael Keaton’s villain Vulture from Spider-Man: Homecoming.
We’ll keep you posted and in the loop of things as this story unfolds!
