Since the beginning of the pandemic, millions around the world have lost their lives to both COVID-19 as well as a variety of other ailments and illnesses. Back in September, we lost esteemed actor Michael K. Williams to an accidental drug overdose that highlights the drug epidemic plaguing the United States currently. Notorious for his roles on a number of television shows, he recently garnered acclaim for his work on the VICE series Black Market which took a deeper look at the underside of the country. Examining the drug trade, gang violence and a myriad of different topics, the series was renowned for its rawness in telling the truth behind the darkside of the United States in a way unlike any series before it was capable of. Now VICE is preparing to release season two of Black Market posthumously to Williams’ death, with a trailer for the new season officially unveiled by the network earlier this week.
Originally debuting in 2016, Black Market took viewers where most television series wouldn’t as Williams tapped into some of the most obscure sides of humanity in hopes of getting a better understanding as to their way of life. Uniquely raw in the way it exposed the underbelly of the United States, Black Market has been acclaimed by many with Williams’ talents as host lauded by virtually everybody who tuned it, showing an acute understanding of the bizarre and alarming situations he was presented with. While his death a few months ago absolutely shocked the world, VICE seemingly has a treat in store for fans with season two of Black Market ready to air and a new trailer to tease the masses prior to its release date. In the trailer, which can be seen below, narrated primarily by Williams and featuring rapper Teejayx6, the talented host once again attempts to illuminate a darker side of society that many stray from in an attempt to replace prejudice with empathy. It will certainly be interesting to see, with season two of Black Market set to premiere on VICE on January 10th at 10 PM.
While Williams death back in September shocked fans, this is likely a welcomed remembrance of him that is sure to elate fans. Despite such a long hiatus between seasons, the second season of Black Market should be something special as it continues to illuminate both Willaims’ legacy and the darker side of America. Eager fans can begin counting down the days until season two of Black Market premieres on VICE on January 10th.
