Joyner Lucas, whose known for his creative videos, has covered it all when he released a tribute song, “Will,” on Wednesday in honor of actor Will Smith.
It’s not difficult paying homage to “The Fresh Prince” but Lucas even covered “Sharktale” from the actor’s resume.
The Worcester rapper used not only words, but released a video where he walked in the steps of his idol. Lucas dressed as a “Fresh Prince from Bel-Air.” Explosions appeared behind him like “Bad Boys”. He dressed as a man in black and wore a cowboy hat from the “Wild Wild West.” Lucas fought an “I-Robot”, pursued “happyness” and spoke of a “Concussion.” He even dressed up like a blue genie and voiced a “Sharktale.”
“I learned a lot from him and I owe it. Homie’s my idol and don’t even know it,” Lucas says in the song.
The four-minute video already has more than 5 million views on YouTube. One of them was Smith, who posted a clip of it to his 4 million followers on Instagram while also praising Lucas.
“That joint is crazy. Dude I am humbled and honored,” Smith said. “One of the lines you say in there, ‘You inspire people and you don’t even know it.’ It has been my intention from day one to really go into the world and just put positive energy and to be able to use my creations to inspire and elevate and empower. I just love what you’ve done.”
Smith also said he hopes to meet Lucas one day. Not only does Lucas act out scenes from Smith’s movies, the rapper also lists all the titles in the song. “I feel like I’m dreamin’, I count all my blessings I’m really elated. I know “I Am Legend” or one in the making,” ..So dope.
