Will Smith took a seat at the ‘Red Table Talk’ to clarify circulating misinformation regarding the Corona Virus and his 2008 action film ‘I Am Legend’. The world’s current crisis has been compared to plots and scenes seen in older films that are now trending on stream sites since the COVID-19 panic has escalated. Films such as Demolition Man, Planet Of The Apes, The Purge, Contagion, Disney’s animated princess film Tangled and Will Smith’s I Am Legend have all been involved in the conspiracy chats.
The Smiths called an “Emergency” family meeting on Facebook to seriously discuss the subject and debunk inaccurate conclusions about the virus. Jada Smith, Will Smith, their daughter Willow Smith, Jada’s mother Adrienne Noris, and Will’s son Trey Smith (from his first marriage) were all present for the talk. Jaden Smith (Will and Jada’s son) was the only member of the appreciated family that didn’t attend- he’d been traveling and wanted to practice social distancing, especially from his grandmother.
“I wanted to do this because in 2008, I made I Am Legend. So I feel responsible for a lot of the misinformation” Will Smith stated.
In I Am Legend Will Smith stars as Robert Neville, a scientist who is the last human survivor of a plague that overtook the whole New York. Robert tries to find a way to reverse the effects of the man-made virus by using his own immune blood.
Here’s what Will Smith had to say:
“While I was preparing for I Am Legend my character was a virologist. So, I had an opportunity in preparation for the role to go to the CDC. There was a basic foundational comprehension of viruses and viral pathogens that I developed and it really changed my life and how I looked at the world. There’s basic concepts that people do not understand… So what I wanted was for us to have now is the opportunity to just go through the basics, and then bring in the experts.”
