As summer has come to a close and September has begun, new Billboard Hot 100 chart ranks have come out. There are rising stars and newer hits in the top 10s as well as recurring icons. One of the recent seasonally relevant charts that just came out with its newest ranks is the Billboard 2020 Songs of the Summer Chart. Just in time for the end of the summer, a bold, dynamic rap collaboration between two talented rappers who very quickly rose to fame made it to the top of this chart. That successful rap song is “Rockstar” by Roddy Ricch and DaBaby. DaBaby only got his big break in 2015, when he signed with Arnold Taylor, a radio promoter and the president of the prominent label South Coast Music Group. Roddy Ricch is even more shocking as his claim to fame was just a year ago. He released his iconic 2019 debut album “Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial”, which caught traction so quickly that it received three Grammy Award Nominations on top of multiple top singles. Now, not much later, these two have so rapidly worked their way to the top of this Billboard Chart. Many more awards and nominations await them both, and hopefully more collaborations as well!
Another interesting and well deserved rank on the Billboard Charts is BTS’s continued presence at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. The K-Pop group’s newest hit, “Dynamite”, was only released on August 21st, with its first ever live debut just nine days later at this year’s VMAs. Now, the song has already been in spot #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart for the past week. Surprisingly, their new English release has even surpassed “WAP” by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion and brought that skyrocketing popular hit down to spot #2. It’s amazing to see how quickly BTS and K-Pop in general has become such an important music scene in the US and has so rapidly become this connected to the American industry. Although foreign music has definitely been featured on the US charts before, BTS has made their mark on the charts and maintained their position and connection to the American audience consistently, and that is not as common or easy. Both of these top hits are fun songs to vibe to and are available on Spotify, YouTube, and all music platforms!
