Tom Hanks and director Paul Greengrass returned to the big screen on Christmas Day with News of the World. Based on the novel by Paulette Jiles, this film is a modern day Western set a few days after the Civil War.
Captain Jefferson Kidd (Hanks) dedicates his time to traveling from town-to-town sharing newspaper stories to all who are willing to listen. While on his journey, he encounters a 10 year old orphan named Johanna (Helena Zengel). He learns she was captured and raised by the Kiowa people after her people were brutally slaughtered. Kidd decides to rescue Johanna and return her to her only living relatives. He takes her under his wing as he fights his way through the unforgiving wilderness. News of the World is a profound story of hope all to make sure that family continues and love endures.
The trailer alone is enough to show you why it grossed an estimated $1.1M on Friday alone. News of the World is now playing in select theaters.
