At only 23 years old, New Jersey singer/songwriter and record producer Nija Charles, professionally known as Nija, strikes an artist deal at Capitol Records. By now, whether you know it or not, you’ve heard some of her penmanship in action. Having entered our radar in 2019, Charles has steadily and quite impressively made her way to the top. In a little over 2 years, the rising star has garnered a star-studded portfolio of writing credits. Having worked with Cardi B, Beyonce, Chris Brown, Jay Z, Ariana Grande, Summer Walker, Megan Thee Stallion, Chloe x Halle, and many more, it comes as no surprise that she has now transitioned into what she calls, “Artist Mode.”
Rollingstone recently dubbed Charles as, “…one of music’s most sought-after songwriters,” and that is indeed true. Her catalogue reveals her ability to be a multi-faceted lyrical savant. In her interview with Rollingstone she shared that, ““I listen to everything, I can write any genre. Just because I’m a little black girl doesn’t mean I only do R&B, but that’s how they stereotype it. You’ve gotta prove them wrong. It’s taken two-and-a-half years for that to happen.” And she did just that! In 2020 Charles leapt into Top 40 pop, co-writing both Lady Gaga’s club hit “Rain on Me” and Maroon 5’s hearfelt ballad “Nobody’s Love.”
While we don’t have much information on Nija’s next steps, or have any indication of what her future album at Capitol Records may sound like, we are so excited to see where she is headed. One thing we are sure of is that the hitmaker is guaranteed to nab hits for herself!
