Popular TV sitcom, Friends first aired back in 1994 on NBC. The show was about six friends in their 20s and 30s who lived in Manhattan, New York City. Friends aired for 10 seasons with its final episode closing the series in 2004. The show has been nominated for and won several awards over the course of its run, making it one of the most popular TV sitcoms of all times.
The six friends were played by Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer. The six characters all had unique personalities and there was bound to be at least one character that you could relate to. As of January 1, 2015 all 236 episodes of Friends was available to view on Netflix until the license was acquired by HBO Max and stopped streaming on Netflix. When HBO Max launched in May 2020, the Friends sitcom began streaming through their platform. At that time there was much speculation that the sitcom was being picked up by HBO Max in preparation of a Friends reboot.
Will a Friends reboot happen? According to sources, the Friends reboot was to be recorded as a reunion back in March of 2020 which had to be delayed because of Covid-19. Back in March, Matthew Perry, a cast member on Friends said the recording would be postponed to March 2021. With so much uncertainty surrounding the pandemic, I’m sure it’s been difficult to commit to the right time to start filming the reunion. However, the timing is now confirmed and I’m sure that fans of the sitcom are anxiously awaiting the reunion.
So when will the reunion air? Although no word on when the Friends reunion will air, cast member David Schwimmer did confirm on his appearance on the U.K’s Graham Norton Show, that shooting will begin next week. He stated that,
“There’s nothing scripted, we’re not in character, we’re all ourselves. The real people. Although, there is one section of it, that I don’t want to give away … we all read something.”
After much anticipation, it seems like the reunion is finally almost here. Will you be tuning in? See below for clip from the U.K’s Graham Norton Show.
