Over the course of the past several decades, the United States has transformed dramatically as society has adapted to the myriad of changes that have taken place. Advancements in science and technology have fueled massive shifts in productivity that have helped America remain one of the most powerful countries in the world, however these advancements have also been underscored by a seismic growth in the rates of crime and violence being experienced as well. Fueled by the illegal drug trade and the rise of criminal organizations that perpetuate these acts, these rates are continuing to grow to this day with murder rates reaching record highs in many major American cities last year that have left members of their communities feeling alarmed. The topics of crime and violence in America have subsequently become of great interest to Hollywood as they reveal the underside of our country unlike virtually anything else, and one series in particular has seen remarkable success: Snowfall has become one of the hottest shows on television in the last few years as it traces the crack cocaine epidemic to its earliest roots, and this week FX unveiled the official trailer for the series’ upcoming fifth season.
First airing back in 2017, Snowfall stars Damson Idris as a young man by the name of Franklin Saint who has a relentless will to succeed by virtually any means necessary. So much so that he became a kingpin in the Los Angeles cocaine trade before he was even old enough to drink, also introducing crack cocaine into the area and playing an integral role in creating a national epidemic. With his success comes plenty of trials and tribulations however, forcing Idris’ character to make difficult decisions time and time again to protect his empire. It doesn’t look like things will be getting much easier in the upcoming fifth season that is expected to premiere next month, with the official trailer for the season five of Snowfall being unveiled by FX this week and highlighting what appears to be a very demanding power struggle that Idris is forced to endure. Reposted below, the trailer showcases an array of incredibly tense exchanges between Franklin Saint and everybody from his drug supplier to his own mother as he continues to put everything on the line time and time again. It will certainly be interesting to see what’s in store, with season five of Snowfall set to premiere on FX on February 23rd.
Drugs and violence essentially go hand in hand, and that is made abundantly obvious in Snowfall. The ruthless individuals at the epicenter of the drug trade will do whatever it takes to protect what they believe is theirs, even if it means taking it with force. Snowfall cites some of the earliest examples of this, highlighting one of the most transformative times in American history as it took place in the country’s second largest city. Now eager fans just need to remain patient in anticipation for the premiere of season five of Snowfall when it airs on FX in a few short weeks.
