HBO Max has decided to give the boot to a Degrassi revival series. Filming for the series was supposed to occur in Toronto this past summer. As per its previous synopsis, the teen drama series was going to “explore a group of teenagers and school faculty living in the shadow of events that both bind them together and tear them apart.” This series would’ve been Degrassi’s sixth installment in the Canadian teen drama franchise. It would’ve followed behind The Kids of Degrassi Street, Degrassi Junior High, Degrassi High, Degrassi: The Next Generation, and Degrassi: Next Class.
The showrunners/executive producers, Lara Azzopardi and Julia Cohen said in a joined statement before this news dropped:
“What excites us maybe the most about reviving this beloved franchise is turning it into a truly serialized one-hour drama. We’re honored to be allowed to lead this evolution and bring this iconic series back into people’s homes.”
The show was supposed to start production in January and release sometime in 2023.
