During their interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell announced that there will be a second installment for their 1997 comedy, Good Burger. The film will run under the Paramount+ tag. The two linked up previously regarding Good Burger in 2015. At that time, they did a small skit on The Tonight Show. The production for Good Burger will kick off later in May.
Thompson released a statement, saying
“I can’t believe it’s been a little over 25 years since great customer service was born at Good Burger! Being a part of something so many generations of people have come to love has made me so proud and now to be back where it all began working on the sequel is surreal! Love performing with my brother Kel and can’t wait to show the fans what these characters have been up to since we last saw them.”
The film will center on Thompson’s character, Dexter Reed, who is “down on his luck after another one of his inventions fails.” Because of this, Ed (Mitchell) presents Dex with an opportunity to return to Good Burger. Now, armored with new employees, Dexter tries to formulate a plan to help him get back on his feet. However, it ends up putting the beloved restaurant at risk again.
“Ed is one of those timeless characters that has brought so much joy and laughter to fans, and it’s such a beautiful blessing to still be doing it after all these years,” Mitchell penned in a statement. “It’s super awesome to come back and continue the stories of Dex, Ed and Good Burger for both the people who grew up watching and their kids.”
Good Burger 2.0 will be available for visual consumption soon!
