In honor of Veterans Day, Captain America: Brave New World star Anthony Mackie took to Instagram, sharing a powerful still from the upcoming movie, featuring him as Sam Wilson in a fresh, redesigned Captain America costume. His caption reads, “Happy Veterans Day, America. To all of our men and women in uniform, thank you for your service and sacrifice”. Mackie’s tribute has fans buzzing with excitement for the fourth Captain America installment, set to hit theaters in early 2025.
The film’s production has reportedly encountered some recent changes. Following test screenings with mixed responses, Mackie was spotted back on set in Los Angeles, filming new scenes rumored to be minor pickups to address feedback. Test audiences reportedly had varied reactions, with some describing the movie as “inessential” and “flat”. These tweaks may be part of Marvel Studios’ plan to make sure Brave New World captures the intensity and depth fans expect.
The latest Captain America movie, directed by Julius Onah, promises a shift in tone from previous Marvel blockbusters. In a recent interview, Mackie explained that Brave New World is moving toward a more grounded approach, aligning with the intense espionage and action-packed style fans loved in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. “It made more sense for it to be a grounded espionage action movie, as opposed to aliens and airplanes coming through portals and sh*t,” Mackie noted. He sees this as an opportunity to “really establish [Sam Wilson] as a true action star and Avenger.”
Mackie hinted that Brave New World is more than just the next chapter in Sam Wilson’s journey; it represents a pivotal moment for the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
“This movie is a clear reset,” he added. “It really re-establishes the idea of what this universe is and what this universe is going to be. I think with these movies, you’re getting a clear, new branding of what Marvel is headed towards“.
Captain America: Brave New World brings an exciting ensemble cast to the screen, including Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Xosha Roquemore, Carl Lumbly, with Giancarlo Esposito, Liv Tyler, Tim Blake Nelson, and Harrison Ford. Produced by Kevin Feige and Nate Moore, and executive produced by Louis D’Esposito and Charles Newirth, the film is set to add a new, more intense flavor to the Captain America legacy.
Mark your calendars for February 14th, 2025, when Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Brave New World arrives in U.S. theaters, promising a fresh take on heroism, legacy, and a bold new direction for the MCU.
