In the second trailer for The Angry Birds Movie 3, Sonic the Hedgehog makes a shocking appearance.
Most fans weren’t expecting to see the Blue Blur before Sonic the Hedgehog 4, but were taken by surprise after he appeared in the new Angry Birds Movie 3 trailer.
The new movie follows Red as he juggles saving the world and being a dad to his three chicks. In the trailer, Red starts by saying that things are about to get crazy before announcing spaghetti night. However, he and Silver quickly realize their kids are too busy looking at their phones. Because he had to save the island twice, he wants to just focus on being a great father, but that’s not always the case. Silver tells him he needs to find a better way to connect with them.
Things get even worse when a new danger threatens the entire island. Red and his family team up to save the world. Even during the danger, Red keeps trying to connect with his kids. But the real kicker is the following scene. In it, Sonic can be seen going at “Sonic-speed” next to Chuck. The trailer ends with Red trying to help his son Glider learn how to catch a rock tied to a rope. After several failed attempts, Chuck doesn’t understand what is happening and starts throwing watermelons at Glider instead.
Sonic’s movie series started in 2020. Ben Schwartz plays Sonic, while Jim Carrey plays Dr. Robotnik. The first movie made $320 million, leading to two more movies in 2022 and 2024. Together, the three movies have made over $1 billion. A fourth Sonic movie is set to debut on March 19, 2027.
Jason Sudeikis returns as the voice of Red. Other cast members include Josh Gad, Emma Myers, Rachel Bloom, Walker Scobell, Danny McBride, Marcello Hernández, Tim Robinson, Anna Cathcart, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Nikki Glaser, MrBeast, Salish Matter, Psalm West, Sam Richardson, James Austin Johnson, Lily James and Keke Palmer.
John Rice is directing the third movie. The director of The Angry Birds Movie 2 is also writing the new film. It’s still unclear whether Sonic will only make a quick appearance or have a bigger role in the story.
