While Billboard notes that GloRilla encountered a bit of a sophomore slump in 2023, as tracks like “Cha Cha,” featuring Fivio Foreign, didn’t achieve the same success as her breakout hits “F.N.F. (Let’s Go)” and “Tomorrow 2” from the previous year, it also highlights her remarkable resurgence. At the beginning of 2024, she made a powerful comeback, regaining her groove with the successful release of “Yeah Glo!”.
“The confident anthem shot up into the top 30 of the Hot 100, illustrating her remarkable resilience as a rapper who stands firm against adversity,” writes journalist Carl Lamarre. ✨
Her impressive run continued with the track “Wanna Be,” featuring Megan Thee Stallion, which broke into the top 15 of the Hot 100, along with the summer sensation “TGIF”. Lamarre elaborated:
“The energy surrounding GloRilla was palpable, as megastars like Rihanna and Taylor Swift recognized her rising influence, celebrating her as rap’s latest ‘IT’ girl. Even Kamala Harris reached out to her towards the end of her campaign, aiming to connect with young voters in her race against Trump.”
Glorilla upbringing
The icing on the cake arrived when GloRilla achieved the best opening week in 2024 for a female rapper, as her debut album, GLORIOUS, soared to No. 5 on the Billboard 200, accumulating an impressive 69,000 album-equivalent units. This remarkable feat was particularly noteworthy as it represented a doubling of the numbers from her spring mixtape, Ehhthang Ehhthang.
