Matthew Lillard’s character from the 1996 movie Scream is making a return by appearing in Scream 7.
After teasing the news months prior, it’s been revealed that Lillard will be playing Stu Macher, one of the two Ghostface killers who was murdered at the end of the first Scream movie. The news comes as a head-scratcher given the fact that he hasn’t shown face in the other Scream installments. Nevertheless, fans are hyped to see how he’s being brought back to life. The actor gave horror fanatics the 4-1-1 after posting a video of himself writing his infamous saying from Scream on his Instagram. It reads “My mom and dad are gonna be so mad at me!”
More recently, Lillard hinted at Stu’s return in Scream during his interview on The Drew Barrymore Show. Amid his discussion with the actress, Lillard presumed that Stu is “definitely alive.” After fans asked him if Stu would make a grand entrance in Scream 7, he said he would be eager to return if it somehow tied in with the plot.
“That would be fun. I would love it,” he responded. “If it made sense, if it made sense for the franchise. If Kevin [Williamson] liked it, then sure.”
Lillard has teased playing a role in Scream 7 before during New York Comic Con. While talking to GameSpot, he said although he’s “not” in Scream 7, he’d “lie directly to your face. Until the day it came out, I would just lie to you.”
The script for Scream 7 is written by Guy Busick. Meanwhile, James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, and Paul Neinstein are producing the movie. Radio Silence will serve as the movie’s executive producer. The plot in Scream 7 will explore Sidney Prescott’s life, similar to Jamie Lee Curtis’ character in the 2018 Halloween film. The Kevin Williamson-directed film will hit theaters on February 27, 2026.
