Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures is releasing A Minecraft Movie, the first-ever live-action film of the world’s best-selling video game. Directed by Jared Hess and starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black, this epic adventure brings the pixelated universe of Minecraft to life like never before. The film also stars Emma Myers, Oscar nominee Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Hansen, and Jennifer Coolidge in an exciting journey into the blocky universe.
When four unlikely heroes, Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison, Henry, Natalie, and Dawn, find themselves going through the motions in life, they’re suddenly transported through a mysterious portal into the Minecraft universe. While they’re trapped in this new world, they must learn its rules, battle dangerous creatures like Piglins and Zombies, and rely on their imagination to return home. Along the way, they join forces with Steve, an expert crafter who helps them embrace their creativity and courage in ways they never imagined. On their journey, each character will test their skills, form new friendships, and learn about the qualities which will ultimately help them in the real world.
Directed by Jared Hess, A Minecraft Movie takes admiration from a screenplay by Chris Bowman & Hubbel Palmer, Neil Widener, Gavin James, and Chris Galletta. The film is produced by Roy Lee, Jon Berg, Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Jason Momoa, Jill Messick, Torfi Frans Ólafsson, and Vu Bui, with executive producers Todd Hallowell, Jay Ashenfelter, Kayleen Walters, Brian Mendoza, and Jon Spaihts. The music is composed by Mark Mothersbaugh and supervised by Gabe Hilfer and Karyn Rachtman.
A Minecraft Movie is a Vertigo Entertainment/On The Roam/Mojang Studios production, presented by Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures. It will be released exclusively in theaters and IMAX on April 4, 2025, and internationally beginning April 2, 2025, with Warner Bros. Pictures handling worldwide distribution and Legendary East releasing in China.
