After 15 years, Disney is finally gearing up to release Tron: Ares, the highly anticipated third installment in the Tron series. The first trailer and poster for the movie were revealed at the CinemaCon this weekend. In the short preview, two Programs riding Light Cycles race through a busy city, leaving light trails that cut through a police car as they chase each other. It also shines light on a new, red grid, where creations from that realm somehow begin to cross over into the real world. Ultimately, the video game world and reality seem to come together in this thrilling ride directed by Joachim Rønning.
The film stars Jared Leto as Ares, an advanced Program sent from the digital realm into the real world on a risky mission, marking humanity’s first interaction with AI beings. The cast also features Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Cameron Monaghan, Gillian Anderson, and Jeff Bridges.

During the CinemaCon presentation, Leto thought about his earlier obsession with Tron.
“As a kid, I was obsessed with Tron,” he shared. “The future felt just around the corner. It had everything I wanted in a movie: action, adventure, and spandex. It took me to a world I’d never seen before. This movie will hit you right in the grid.”
Produced by Sean Bailey, Jeffrey Silver, Justin Springer, Jared Leto, Emma Ludbrook, and Steven Lisberger, with Russell Allen serving as executive producer, Tron: Ares is shaping up to be an exciting addition to the franchise.
