Ooh baby baby! Austin Butler lands the part as Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s biopic film. The young actor and singer will play as Elvis Presley as he gains his fame in the 50’s.
Butler along with his swuave aesthetic, he has a history of being smooth in his acts. For all the Sex In The City bingers we remember him from the prequel of Carrie, The Carrie Diaries. He began on Nickelodeon, starred on Disney, and made his first Broadway debut in the The Iceman Cometh starring Denzel Washington.
Austin Butler seemed to be perfect for this role as he was the choice amongst many high profile actors that auditioned for the role such as Miles Teller and Harry Styles.
Luhrmann, the Oscar-nominated film-maker behind The Great Gatsby and Moulin Rouge said:
“I knew I couldn’t make this film if the casting wasn’t absolutely right, and we searched thoroughly for an actor with the ability to evoke the singular natural movement and vocal qualities of this peerless star, but also the inner vulnerability of the artist …
“Through a journey of extensive screen testing and music and performance workshops, I knew unequivocally that I had found someone who could embody the spirit of one of the world’s most iconic musical figures.”
Butler said he’s already spending alot of time and hard work preparing for the role as the King of Rock-n-Roll by practicing Presely’s songs and admits that he is liking all of them.
“It’s an extraordinary privilege. And I just feel so blessed to be working with such singular directors like him and Quentin Tarantino.” Austin said when asked about his role for the upcoming biopic.
There is no release date set for the movie yet, but filming will begin in early 2020. Tom Hanks is set to co-star in the movie as Colonel Tom Parker, Presley’s longtime manager.
