While appearing on The Jennifer Hudson Show to promote The Drama, Zendaya revealed that she hopes to work with director Ryan Coogler someday. When host Jennifer Hudson asked if there was someone she still wanted to collaborate with. Zendaya answered right away, saying, “I would love to work with Ryan Coogler.” The actress has had this dream since watching the film Fruitvale Station.
Zendaya explained that they share a connection because they were both born in Oakland, California. She said she has admired his work for quite some time.
“For years I’ve felt this way, since Fruitvale Station, because I thought that was such a beautiful and powerful film,” she expressed.
Starring Michael B. Jordan, the 2013 film focuses on a young man who was killed in 2009 by a Bay Area Rapid Transit police officer in Oakland. Zendaya said the film and its real-life story hold a great deal of significance in the African American community.

She humorously added that they almost feel like family. His strong Oakland accent reminds her of family, and she applauded him for his impactful work in the movie industry.
“I know I don’t know you, but I feel like you’re my cousin,” she said.
Although Zendaya is hopeful they will work together one day, she said it may take time because she plans to take a brief hiatus. She has several projects coming out soon, including The Drama, Euphoria, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, The Odyssey, and Dune: Part Three.
