Melissa Leo, an Oscar and Emmy winner, has joined the cast of Will Smith’s upcoming movie, Supermax.
Directed by David Gordon Green, Supermax is an action crime thriller set inside a maximum-security prison. Leo joins Smith and previously announced cast members AnnaSophia Robb, Jason Clarke, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Andrés Almeida, Martin Bats Bradford, Erika Ringor, and Jaafar Jackson.
Leo is best known for winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2011 for her role in The Fighter. She also won an Emmy for her guest appearance on Louie and has appeared in projects such as Frozen River, Prisoners, The Equalizer, and Mildred Pierce.
Her role in Supermax is being kept secret for now.

The movie follows two FBI agents as they investigate a murder that seems impossible inside a maximum-security prison. Supermax was written by David Weil and David J. Rosen, while Will Smith will also serve as a producer.
Amazon MGM reportedly acquired the film from Miramax for $70 million in May 2026. Supermax will skip theaters and premiere directly on Prime Video, though an official release date has not been announced yet.
