The Brooklyn native J.I. The Prince of NY announced Friday that the ink is officially dry on his new deal with Interscope Records, which also happens to come packaged as a partnership with G*STARR ENT.
“We was signed to the streets before a major label,” J.I. captioned a post making his move to Interscope official. “I hadda turn the streets up a notch. Interscope believes in the kid. I’m proud to announce I’m the newest artist on their roster … 2020 is ours‼️”
Although it originally first came out on his Hood Life Crisis, Vol. 1 project last month, the burgeoning 18-year-old rapper celebrated signing the deal with his fans by dropping off the steamy “Love Won’t Change” video. The warmhearted clip finds J.I. letting his love interest know that he’ll always be her ride-or-die, as the visual flashes back to some of the good times they had together as a couple.
“J.I the Prince is not only the future of New York, but a global superstar in the making,” added Nicole Wyskoarko, executive vice president of urban operations at Interscope. “His charisma, intelligence and clear vision for his art separates him from other artists his age. We’re incredibly excited to partner with long standing music executive, Gaby Acevedo of G*STARR ENT, and J.I.”
J.I. will be heading out on his first headlining tour in January. The Hood Life Crisis Tour includes stops in NYC, Philly, Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Los Angeles and more. Check out the “Love Won’t Change” video below:
