New York and Los Angeles get crowd capacity restrictions, shutting down areas of gathering in goal to prevent the spread of the Corona Virus. Mayors have ordered all movie theaters to be closed along with other facilities.
New York City Mayor De Blasio has ordered a shutdown for all cinemas beginning 9am on Tuesday, March 17. In addition to movie theaters, nightclubs and concert venues are to be closed. Restaurants are limited to take-out and delivery orders only and New York public schools will remain closed all through April until further notice.
Mayor De Blasio took to Twitter to announce the difficult decision to close “the heart and soul of our city” with such short and unexpected notice.
“This is not a decision I make lightly,” de Blasio tweeted. “These places are part of the heart and soul of our city. They are part of what it means to be a New Yorker. But our city is facing an unprecedented threat, and we must respond with a wartime mentality… We will come through this, but until we do, we must make whatever sacrifices necessary to help our fellow New Yorkers.”
As for Los Angeles, Mayor Eric Garcetti has ordered mandatory closing for facilities including movie theaters, bars, nightclubs, gyms and entertainment venues alike. L.A. shutdown is holding through the remainder of March until further notice.
While government declares the closing of “non-essential” businesses to further emphasize social distancing, box offices and those working in the film industry take a hit! Supermarkets, pharmacies and gas stations remain safe from the shut down, open for business and suggested to take extreme care when it comes to sanitizing.
