Emmy Award-winning actress, Amy Adams, will star in Universal’s adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen. Known for her Oscar-nominated performances in Arrival and American Hustle, Adams will portray Cynthia Murphy, a mother dealing with the loss of her teenage son.
The Enchanted star joins Kaitlyn Denver as Zoe, Amandla Stenberg as Alana, Colton Ryan as Connor, Danny Pino as Larry, and Nik Dodani as Jared. Adams will play opposite Ben Platt who originated and won a Tony for the title role on Broadway in 2016. Platt’s character is a socially awkward teenager who writes letters to deal with his anxiety and gets caught up in a lie pretending to be best friends with a classmate who committed suicide, Connor Murphy.
This will be director Stephen Chbosky’s third film following highly acclaimed films such as Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012) and Wonder (2017). The adaptation will feature music by Oscar winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul and a script by Steven Levenson.
