Over the past weekend, tragedy struck in Houston where esteemed rapper Travis Scott hosted his annual Astroworld festival. Headlined by Mr. Scott and several of his high-profile rapper friends, the event is regarded by fans of Scott’s music as their own personal utopia in which they can do as they please. The results of that attitude were all but pleasant however, with eight casualties already reported since last Friday evening stemming from just the first day of Astroworld. More details are continuing to emerge as the days pass and more information is provided by those present at the event, and lawsuits are already beginning to roll in against Travis and company in response to the events of the past weekend.
Travis Scott has built quite the name for himself, garnering a massive following and partnerships that have helped an equally impressive fortune. His Astroworld festival is a prime example of that as he commandeers an entire baseball stadium, NRG Stadium, to host the event. This year’s festivities got out of hand however, with a variety of reports making a number of claims that all come to virtually the same conclusion: it was complete chaos. Reports of Scottt continuing to perform as bedlam broke out amongst the crowd have put him in the hot seat since Friday night when the tragic events took place. Other lawsuits have already begun to sprung up as well, with one naming Drake as the defendant for his surprise appearance during Scott’s set. It should be interesting to see what comes of this as more details emerge about a night that will go down in infamy.
Along with the eight people who already passed away, another few dozen individuals have been hospitalized since the fateful night in question. Astroworld was bound to be a disaster in hindsight, however nobody could’ve anticipated something like this. While it is easy to assume Travis had no knowledge of what was going on, the security at the event were reportedly understaffed and were not properly trained for the severity of the situation in Houston this past weekend. Travis Scott has come out and said he will be covering the funeral expenses of those lost at Astroworld, amongst other things, however this story is likely far from over.
