Denzel Washington will star in a new thriller from Amazon MGM Studios, directed by Christopher McQuarrie.
The story follows a former police detective serving a life sentence who learns he has terminal brain cancer. With only six months to live, he is released from prison and returns home to reconnect with his estranged daughter and meet his grandson for the first time. He hopes to make things right with his family and leave his past behind, but his past soon catches up with him.

McQuarrie will also produce the film alongside Scott Stuber, Nick Nesbitt, and several others. Producers are currently looking for an actress to play Washington’s daughter.
Scott Barkan and Gregg Zehentner wrote the script. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2027.
Washington was previously set to reunite with director Antoine Fuqua for a Netflix film about ancient Carthaginian general Hannibal. However, production was put on hold due to budget issues. This allowed Washington to focus on other projects, including the new thriller, which became a priority after he met with McQuarrie.
Recently, Washington starred in Broadway’s Othello alongside Jake Gyllenhaal and appeared in Spike Lee’s Highest 2 Lowest. He will next star in Netflix’s The Take.
