“Tylers album was really dope, we came in immediately and said it was better than Khaled’s album.”
DJ Khaled is reportedly getting ready to sue Billboard after his latest album Father Of Asahd didn’t make it to No. 1.
The acclaimed Tyler The Creator’s new album IGOR outsold the Miami–New Orleans based DJ by 30,000 sales. Khaled made it known that he was upset by posting a video then shortly deleting it.
“I make albums so people can play it, and you actually hear it, you know driving in your car hear another car playing it, you know going to the barber shop and hear them playing it, you know turn the radio on and hear them playing it, you know its playing everywhere , its call great music its called albums that you actually hear the songs, not no mysterious shit and you never hear it.“ DJ Khaled referring to IGOR
The outspoken Joe Budden had something to say on the topic during his podcast, “Tylers album was really dope, we came in immediately and said it was better than Khaled’s album.” Budden continues. “This is really funny. I want to also say that Tyler announced he sold out Madison Square Garden.” “It was different when JAY-Z did it, Tylers’ not from here.”
According to Page Six, Khaled is in the works to sue Billboard for unfairly disqualifying 100,000 sales because they were bundled with an energy drink.
It is reported that Billboard had initially agreed to include these sales, but later backtracked. A source from DJ Khaled released a statement.
“When Khaled’s team tried to appeal, Billboard refused to budge.”
Page Six previously reported that Khaled was furious when Tyler beat him to the top spot, with multiple sources telling the publication that he threw a hissy fit at record label Epic. “He stormed into Epic with an entourage,” a source said. When projections showed his new record looked likely to come in second, they claimed that “he was angry and yelling. He threw a temper tantrum,”
The whole situation sounds very similar to the Nicki Minaj Queen album vs. Travis Scott’s Astro World back in August 2018, when the twitter war over the number 1 album spot started. Minaj claimed Scott used sales generated by Kylie Jenner that should have not been counted toward his Billboard ranking.
Nonetheless, Khaled’s album “Father Of Asahd” has well constructed beats and the star feature overload can’t be ignored. “Just Us” featuring neo-soul singer SZA is a re-creation of Outkast’s “Ms. Jackson” beat with a catchy hook that just makes you feel good! Also “Higher” , featuring the late Nipsey Hussle with support from John Legend definitely hits a soft spot.
“I’ve been trying to get on the radio. I haven’t been super successful with that, but that time will come.” Said Tyler talking to GQ Style. IGOR is full of inspiration, contributions from Dev Hynes and Charlie Wilson singing together on the track “EARFQUAKE”, Mile High Club’s backing vocals on “GONE,GONE/THANK YOU” along with compelling bits of production including an Al Green sample closer “ARE WE STILL FRIENDS?.”
Whether or not the father of Asahd should take the spot of the mysterious IGOR, well leave that up to your playlists!
