Some footage from the next Spider-Man movie has leaked online, and co-writer and producer Christopher Miller is not thrilled about it. The unfinished footage in question is about four and a half minutes long and is from Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, the final movie in the animated series.
Miller spoke out about the leak on X, saying, “Not a fan of leaks of unfinished, not fully rendered footage.”
It’s unclear where the leaked footage came from. However, Sony showed footage from the movie to industry insiders and fans at CinemaCon in April. At CinemaCon, Christopher Miller described the movie as “the most emotional Spider-Verse film we have ever made,” while Phil Lord called it “the most spectacular.”
The leaked footage appears to include the movie’s opening scene along with clips that look like a traditional trailer. It continues the story from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which ended on a cliffhanger with Miles Morales being held by his Earth-42 counterpart and Uncle Aaron.
Beyond the Spider-Verse is being written and produced by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, along with David Callaham. Meanwhile, Justin K. Thompson and Bob Persichetti are directing.
Shameik Moore returns as the voice of Miles Morales, while Hailee Steinfeld returns as Spider-Gwen.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse earned more than $690 million worldwide in 2023. The franchise began with 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.
The leak comes as Sony’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues its strong box office run, recently reaching $1.8 billion worldwide.
