Jim Carrey, who plays Dr. Robotnik in the latest live-action Sonic The Hedgehog movies, says he’s “open to the idea” of reprising his role as the archvillain in future installments.
During an interview with Cinema Blend, the Award-winning actor he’d be more than willing to play in future Sonic The Hedgehog films. The only catch is that it has to sound fun for him.
“I’m definitely open. I’m open to the idea, and generally, they come to me with the next idea, and if I go ‘That sounds fun’, y’know, then I’ll do it,” he expressed to the interviewer. “I don’t feel locked to anything in life unless it’s something that interests me.”
Carrey went on to express his gratitude to his cast mates in Sonic the Hedgehog, his supporters, and the feedback he’s received since starring as Doctor Eggman.
“I certainly love this crew. I love this gang that makes these movies and I love the fans,” he continued. “I think there’s a lot of really great energy around it and great responses. And the fans jump in there and go like ‘How about if you do this?’ y’know, and they’ve been super helpful; I think we’re all making this movie together.”
Jim Carrey’s thoughts on returning to future Sonic The Hedgehog films come as no surprise, considering that he shifted his views about retirement after taking on Dr Eggman in Sonic The Hedgehog 3. During the premiere of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in December of 2024, he said it only felt right to come back to the Sonic realm for a third time because his character is “a genius.”
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 follows Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails as they join forces and go against a mysterious villain with powers that they’ve never witnessed. Team Sonic must partner up with an unlikely alliance to stop Shadow and protect the planet. The movie stars Carrey, Ben Schwartz, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Idris Elba, and Keanu Reeves, to name a few.
