During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Julia Garner, who plays the Silver Surfer in the upcoming movie The Fantastic Four: The First Steps, said she’d be more than eager to return for a spin-off movie based on her character, Shalla-Bal.
“Absolutely, I’d love to do that,” she told the publication. “The Silver Surfer is such a cool character, and it’s rare to see something so mysterious nowadays. That kind of vibe is something I’d love to see on screen.”
Somewhere in the conversation, the Ozark star also revealed new intel on the mysterious cosmic hero.
Garner explained that Shalla-Bal works for Galactus, but her true intentions are unknown.
“You don’t know if she agrees with him or is just following orders,” she said. “She has this mysterious energy, and that will slowly become clearer as the story goes on.”

As for Shalla-Bal’s backstory or her connection to Norrin Radd, well, fans will have to pick up the pieces on their own.
“All I can say is she works for Galactus and she’s mysterious,” Garner teased. “Her story unfolds more at the end of the movie. That’s all I can say. I haven’t even seen the full movie myself!”
In the comics, Shalla-Bal is the Empress of Zenn-La and the love interest of Norrin Radd, the original Silver Surfer. Later, she also gets cosmic powers and becomes a herald of Galactus.
In The Fantastic Four: The First Steps, Garner plays the first live-action version of Shalla-Bal. She said the character comes across as mysterious, and it’s unclear if she’s truly good or not.

Directed by WandaVision‘s Matt Shakman, The Fantastic Four explores the lives of Mr. Fantastic, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, The Human Torch, The Thing, and the Silver Surfer. It pulls inspiration from the comic book that launched the Marvel Comics universe in 1961. The characters are created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. The movie stars Pedro Pascal, Garner, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, to name a few.
