Kanye West is definitely planning to run for president in 2020, according to Forbes. The rapper and fashion designer did his first interview since announcing he was running July 4 and filled in some blanks about the situation.
West, 43, whose original plan was to run in 2024, will seek the presidency under the banner of the “Birthday Party” because he says when we win, it’s everybody’s birthday. His running mate is Michelle Tidball, a 57-year-old Wyoming preacher. As of now, West doesn’t have a political team, rather two advisers: his wife Kim Kardashian-West, and Tesla/SpaceX CEO Elon Musk.
When it comes to President Donald Trump, West said that he no longer supports him. “I am taking the red hat off, with this interview,” he said.
“It looks like one big mess to me,” West said. “I don’t like that I caught wind that he (Trump) hid in the bunker,” West said. He also suggests that Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden leave the race.
His feelings on the current president haven’t changed his political ideals and association. West said he would run as a Republican if Trump wasn’t there, and if Trump reamins he will run as independent.
On a lot of issues, like the death penalty and abortion, West seems to take his stance from God. He opposes the death penalty, saying “thou shalt not kill.” He is pro-life because he’s “following the word of the Bible.”
Even on the result of a presidential election, he says God makes that decision. “If I win in 2020 then it was God’s appointment. If I win in 2024 then that was God’s appointment,” West said.
Perhaps lost among his political thoughts throughout the Forbes interview was West saying he contracted coronavirus in late February and he experienced chills and shaking in bed.
“I remember someone had told me Drake had the coronavirus and my response was Drake can’t be sicker than me.” West joked. Guess the only thing left to ask is, Are you voting for Yeezy 2020?
