A new update has been revealed about Five Nights at Freddy’s 3. The horror franchise has enlisted the last person fans would expect for a key role. According to ComingSoon, David Robert Mitchell, the writer and director of the horror movie It Follows, is currently writing the script for the third film.
Skeet Ulrich, known for his star role in Scream and now Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, confirmed the news during an appearance at Sinister Creature Con, saying the team is waiting for the script to be finished before moving forward with the movie.

“We’re waiting on the third script to make the third film. The guy who wrote It Follows is writing it right now,” he said.
Ulrich will join his Scream co-star Matthew Lillard, who will return as William Afton, while Skeet is reprising his role as Henry. During a recent press run, Lillard joked that his character will probably be killed by Ulrich’s character in the third movie.
“We’re about to go do the third movie, and we’re in it together, and I’m going to kill him, I’m sure,” he explained.

The first two Five Nights at Freddy’s movies were written by Scott Cawthon and directed by Emma Tammi. Even though it didn’t receive much applause from movie buffs, both movies were successful at the box office. The movies are based on the popular survival/horror created by Cawthon.
Five Nights at Freddy’s, released in 2023, made nearly $300 million worldwide on a $20 million budget. The second movie earned more than $235 million worldwide after its release in 2025. Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 doesn’t have an official release date yet.
