Kendrick Lamar delivered a brief yet powerful performance during his first live appearance since the release of his latest album, GNX, at TDE’s Christmas concert on Thursday, December 12.
Lamar treated the audience to two tracks: he opened with “Humble,” a hit from his 2017 album DAMN, before transitioning to “Squabble Up,” a new song that made its live debut that night. Throughout the performance, Lamar interacted with the crowd, dancing alongside young children and adding a lively, heartwarming touch to his stage presence.
The concert featured an array of talented artists, including Zacari, Isaiah Rashad, SZA, Doechii,SiR, Ab-Soul, Ray Vaughn and Jay Rock, each adding their unique flair to the event.
Additionally, GloRilla took the stage to perform her hit “TGIF,” which was recently named Time’s Best Song of the Year.
The festive concert was more than just a musical celebration; it also served as a toy drive, with free admission for attendees. Fans were encouraged to bring unwrapped toys or clothing items, all of which were donated to local children in need, spreading holiday cheer to those less fortunate.
The two-day event is designed to support the residents of Nickerson Gardens, the public housing project where TDE founder Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith and artist Jay Rock grew up.
According to a press release, “From its beginnings, TDE has been a cornerstone in the music industry, and this success reflects the label’s commitment to giving back to some of Los Angeles’s most underserved and marginalized communities.”
TDE’s Ray Vaughn shared with Vibe, “I prefer participating in events like this over other shows. These are the moments that truly count. Giving back to the community feels like a responsibility we have as artists.”
TDE President Terrance “Punch” Henderson added, “Returning here every year is always a full-circle moment for us, especially since many of us grew up in this neighborhood.”
