Global icon, Mariah Carey, will be revealing her self entirely, via an unfiltered lens with her new memoir The Meaning of Mariah.
The “We Belong Together” songstress, will be adding author to the long list of accomplishments she has achieved over her illustrious career, as she prepares to bring us into her world through her written story, which is set to be released later this year in September. The book, written with Michaela Angela Davis, will be out in print and on Audible via Andy Cohen Books. Carey will voice her own life story on the audio version.
Carey teased the book’s arrival on July 8, writing on Instagram: “It took me a lifetime to have the courage and the clarity to write my memoir. I want to tell the story of the moments — the ups and downs, the triumphs and traumas, the debacles and the dreams, that contribute to the person I am today. … This book is composed of my memories, my mishaps, my struggles, my survival and my songs. Unfiltered. Writing this memoir was incredibly hard, humbling and healing. My sincere hope is that you are moved to a new understanding, not only about me, but also about the resilience of the human spirit.”
As described in a press release the memoir promises to depict, “…an improbable and inspiring journey of survival and resilience as she struggles through complex issues of race, identity, class, childhood and family trauma during her meteoric rise to music superstardom. By pulling back the curtain on perceptions often told through the filtered lens of media, Carey bravely and beautifully walks through her battles with gender and power dynamics, emotional abuse, public embarrassments, personal failures and phenomenal victories,” the release read. “In her own words and song lyrics, Carey reveals untold moments and intimate experiences along with anecdotes of sacred moments with iconic figures to craft an honest, unique and vivid portrait of her extraordinary life.”
With more than 200 million albums sold to date and multiple No. 1 singles, Carey is among the most successful artists in history and the recipient of multiple Grammy Awards, in addition to other honors like induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. As an actress, Carey has also distinguished herself in critically acclaimed roles, among them: Lee Daniels’ “Precious” and “The Butler.”
Audible is set to exclusively release the audiobook performed by Carey herself, blended with special musical components, while the five-time Grammy-winner narrates her journey.
Carey’s memoir will be one of three nonfiction works by women being released by Andy Cohen’s new self-titled imprint.
Andy Cohen Books is an imprint of Macmillan Publishing Group/Holt. James Melia, senior editor at Holt, will edit the print version, and Kat Lambrix, senior director at Audible Studios, will produce the audio.
