During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Docter, who directed the Monsters Inc movie and other Pixar films like Soul and Inside Out, disclosed that they have been working on the creative process for the upcoming sequel. Docter expressed his thoughts on the matter by, “I always thought there were certain rules formulas for what makes a film turn into a franchise or get a sequel, but there aren’t“.
When asked about which films deserved to be turned into franchises, Docter responded, “It’s much looser, but obviously, it’s based on all of the above“. It’s an interesting question to ponder. Let’s continue about what Docter had to say.
Monster Inc Return
Docter further elaborated by stating, “We have to find something that we feel is worthy, first and foremost. It should be something that hopefully the audience responded to, and then we could still not find anything. We’ve been searching for ideas for a Monsters Inc sequel for a long time and we have yet come across enough to start working on one“.
The original Monsters, Inc. film was released in 2001 and starred Billy Crystal, James Coburn, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Mary Gibbs, and Jennifer Tilly.
