Inspired by New York Times Bestseller, Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay and a Mother’s Will to Survive, a new series is headed to Netflix. The 10-episode series titled Maid will be available to stream on October 1. Margaret Qualley will play the lead role. Qualley will lead staring as Alex, a single mother who escapes an abusive relationship and turns to house cleaning as she struggles to provide for her daughter. An all so common reality for the working poor who are overworked and underpaid.
The Author of Hard Work, Low Pay and a Mother’s Will to Survive, Stephanie Land, expressed her feelings about the upcoming series in a statement. Land, an executive producer of the show, said,
“I wrote a book so people who struggle to get by could see themselves represented in an authentic way, and they could feel less alone. MAID, the series on Netflix that was inspired by my book, continues that legacy in ways that absolutely blow my mind.”
Amazon describes the book as “An inspiring testament to the strength, determination, and ultimate triumph of the human spirit.” This series seems like it will be relatable on many levels for males and females. The silver lining lies in the main character’s imagination. Alex dreams of having more than her current circumstances allow.
The official synopsis of the film is:
